About Early to Bed
Founded in 2001, Early to Bed (ETB) is Chicago’s first woman-owned and women-oriented sex shop. Unlike traditional “adult” stores, ETB is committed to creating a safe space for people of all genders and orientations to explore and learn about sexuality. Through workshops and community outreach, ETB educates people about their bodies, their sexual response, and the many joys of sex toys. Early to Bed is very selective about the products it carries, stocking only items that work as expected, are made from safe ingredients, and bring the consumer a good value for their dollar. The shop specializes in seeking out and carrying toys and accessories made by woman-owned and boutique manufacturers. In addition to the retail store, Early to Bed runs workshops and gives talks all over the city and state. ETB is committed to the local feminist, LGBTQ and sex-positive community and works hard to support organizations doing good work in those areas by hosting fundraisers and making donations whenever possible.
About Early to Bed’s Founder, Searah Deysach
Searah Deysach dropped out of graduate school at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2000 to start her journey as a sex shop owner. Realizing that a life in the art world was not her calling, she discovered that talking about sex was. With a small loan from friends and family, she opened up Chicago’s only feminist sex shop with little knowledge of the industry, but plenty of passion for the product. In addition to performing the daily tasks of running the shop, she has been thrilled and honored to take her message of positive sexuality to various community groups, college campuses and even a church basement or two. In recent years she has joined forces with other like-mined shop across the country to start The Progressive Pleasure Club , a network of indie, education-based sex shops in North America. Devoted to helping others find pleasure, Searah turned her love of erotic objects into a job that brings her joy every single day.
Early to Bed is committed helping people from all walks of life enjoy a richer and more positive sex life while working to be a beneficial force within the local women’s, LGBTQ and sex-positive communities.
