Spiders, now with Detachable Penises

In the lastest installment of crazy animal sex, scientists have learned that there are spiders with detachable penises (and now this will be stuck in my head all night). You’ve probably heard about the rad lady spiders who post-coitally nosh their mates. The detachable penis seems to be a way for male spiders to pass on their genes even if they are eaten or scared away before they are done boning. These spiders have two of these detachable penises, called palps, that continue to pump sperm for some time after they break away from the spider’s body. As my partner put it, “So now, not only do I have to worry about spiders climbing in my mouth while I sleep, but I also have to fear that they will leave their penises behind.”
